Prevalence of CAA without tau or neuritic amyloid in dementia Lead Investigator: David Borchelt Institution : University of Florida E-Mail : davidrborchelt@yahoo.com Proposal ID : 1335 Proposal Description: We have been using seeding in APP transgenic mice to examine how different types of Abeta pathology may cause dysfunction in the CNS. We are in the planning stages of a project to test the hypothesis that there are distinct strains of Abeta pathology and we are looking to identify sources of frozen tissues from donors that were either cognitively normal or demented and that had extensive CAA with no neuritic Abeta pathology and no tau pathology. Ideally, we would like to identify at least 10 examples of each that we could obtain frozen tissue from. The ultimate goal is to develop new approaches to modeling vascular dementia with CAA in mice. Objectives 1) Determine whether there are distinct strains of Abea pathology in CAA that differ in their ability to produce secondary vascular damage. 2) Determine whether these differences in strain characteristics can be propagated in APP transgenic mice.
